Flock HQ

September 21st, 2007 by Stephen

Flock LogoFlock is a social web browser that is built upon Mozilla’s open-source Firefox web-browser. It allows you to easily blog, share photos from your favorite sites, rate anything, and includes a built-in feed reader. The company was recently among the participants in Techcrunch 40, where they debuted version 1.0 of the browser.

Their office looks like it is in a great space, and from the looks of it the employees are really social, though I have to think that the cubicles might curb that it to a certain degree (which is probably a good thing for productivity). I love the decoration being done on the conference room, sometimes it is just the little things that really liven up a space. Also, these offices are in Mountain View, CA.

Chumby HQ

September 20th, 2007 by Jose

Chumby LogoIf Ron Popeil made a computer, this would be it. Chumby takes widgets from your desktop and puts them on your countertop, stovetop, or muffintop. You can get weather, track scores, follow auctions, check email, and other stuff, ‘cos it’s got wifi. And it’s pretty friendly looking.

The real story about Chumby, though, is that they have a jackalope head on their wall. Taxidermy rules. But only if it’s jackalopes, unicorns, or kwyjibos.

/Stephen’s Edit: These office are located in San Diego, CA, which is pretty close to where I live. Perhaps I’ll be able to get a tour :)

Google NYC Offices

September 19th, 2007 by Stephen

Google LogoI just came across this great website today called Google. The basic premise of Google is that it allows you to “search” the internet. You probably think that I am joking, but you can actually search it…pretty wild, huh? While the results might not be as good as your memory, some people really like using it. I don’t think it will be around very long, so try to check it out while you still can.

Google’s NYC offices are great. It looks as if you are in their main office, only when you look outside, you are across the country. This office looks to have some of the same amenities as the Mountain View location, though with a few extras I haven’t come across before like a lego-building area and office scooters to commute around the space. Check it out:

Stixy Offices

September 18th, 2007 by Stephen

Stixy LogoStixy is a new webservice that you have probably never heard of, but that doesn’t make them any less worthy of being featured on Office Snapshots. Their service provides users with a collaborative workspace that is both fun and easy to use. You can currently share and edit to-dos, documents, photos, and send notes back and forth. Just think of it as an online, sharable bulletin board.

What makes their office unique is that the two developers live around the world from each other and work from their homes. Anders, whose office setup is shown first, is in Mill Valley, California. Jonas’, shown second, is located in Karlshamn, Sweden. This will undoubtedly continue to be a growing trend among developing businesses because it is not always easy or cost-effective to relocate around the world.

Creative Commons HQ

September 18th, 2007 by Stephen

CC LogoCreative Commons is responsible for opening up a lot of the creative avenues on the web today. Their licensing makes it possible to keep control of a work, but allows others to have freedom to many activities that would not have been possible under an ominous *All Rights Reserved* license. CC is the reason a site like this is even feasible because a majority of the images here have been licensed for use with only attribution, meaning we need to give the photographer credit, but not work out a licensing deal with him/her.

Their main headquarters are technically located in San Francisco, but are actually located in each of our hearts. Thank you Creative Commons!
