Ben Franklin might have invented bifocals, but Squidoo invented Lenses. With Squidoo, you can make your very own Lens, which is basically a webpage you can build around any topic that strikes your fancy. You can write stuff, put up pictures, include videos, and if you like money, you can get paid for having a popular page.
Squidoo’s offices are located in Irvington, New York, and there are a couple of really remarkable things about this office. First, there are about a million books. Second, the coolest couch in the world happens to be here. It’s fluffy, velvety, and looks like it came out of a Dr. Seuss book. Splendid.

Trig is social network. And it is really nice. But it’s more than just a pretty face; you can do almost anything you can do on any other community, plus neat things like “trig”ing objects that you like, and tagging anything you see. It’s still in beta (which might not mean much nowadays), but it seems pretty well put together.
Their office happens to be in sunny Stockholm, Sweden, and it is so nice, it puts their website to shame. Glass conference rooms! X-box 360! Neon bar! Waterfront views! How do they afford it? They charge you for that delicious food.

Tumblr allows its users to create tumblelogs. While I know we would all like to think these are the aftermath of chopping a tree down on too steep of a slope, they aren’t. What they are are the scrapbooks of the internet, giving Tumblers the ability to quickly post media items.
I am a pretty big fan of their office space, and especially those red cubes that are hanging all over the place. Unless of course, they are camouflaged beehives. God, I hate bees.

For those of you that haven’t heard of Pagekick, it is a German web portal that serves up user-generated content. Users submit and vote on links, articles, blogs, etc. The best stuff is displayed and organized on the front page. The site is currently ‘alpha’, so it only has basic features online.
The office itself is located in Berlin, and really exemplifies what I think of when I think ’startup’. It only has the basic elements that are necessary at the early stages of building a web company: computers, desks, and black cats.

McAfee has been keeping our computers safe from spam, viruses, spyware, phishing, and the like since the 80s. They’re like the sheriffs of the web. Except they have less shoot-outs and more Internet (a lot more).
Their offices in sunny Santa Clara, CA aren’t spectacular, but they seem pretty agreeable. Yes, the cubicles might remind us of Initech, but I bet these guys would let you have as many red Swinglines as you wanted. Also, doesn’t their Mexican food catering and threatening Wild West sign go quite well with my sheriff analogy?
