MXit Lifestyle - South Africa Office

July 31st, 2008 by Stephen

Today is a double milestone day for Office Snapshots, with the first being the most subscribers ever, and the second being our first office on the continent of Africa.

MXit is a mobile instant messaging company based in Cape Town, South Africa (actually in ‘no man’s land’ between Stellenbosch and Cape Town, but who is keeping track?). They’ve got somewhere around 9 million users in 120 countries, which is pretty impressive. The company also offers many mobile games that their users can enjoy.

The office itself is just a great space for the company to grow into. The look is pretty modern and it has workstations like I’ve never seen. The office also has a fantastic view of the surrounding area, which includes the country’s best wineries. They also have clocks, which, in case you didn’t know, are the most important part of any tech office.

Headed to SF (UPDATE)

July 29th, 2008 by Stephen

Update: Just wanted to let you all know the additions made to my schedule of visits this time around.

Hey everyone, Just wanted to let you know that I’m headed to San Francisco this week and wanted to get some feedback as far as companies I should try to visit. I would also be interested to know if any of our readers work at tech companies in the San Francisco area that would allow Office Snapshots to drop by.

I do, however, have a few companies already lined up to visit:

Rofo is a free website for entrepreneurs and small businesses searching for commercial real estate and related services for facilities/office space.

Twitter is social networking and micro-blogging site that allows users to post their latest updates which are limited to 140 characters in length.

3Jam is a multi-person sms startup which allows users to text message multiple contacts at once. The product allows all message recipients to see who got the message as well as to “reply to all”.

Seesmic provides anyone with an innovative way to communicate and connect online through video conversation by recording a video directly on Seesmic’s website, with your mobile phone or by uploading an existing video straight from your computer.

Meebo is a communications and media company that’s re-writing the way people have conversations and communicate on the Web. They provide instant messaging and group chat to over 35 million people at meebo.com and via partner sites across the Web.

Microsoft Office - San Diego

July 29th, 2008 by Stephen

So a few months ago I had the opportunity to go to BarcampSD which was located at Microsoft’s San Diego office. Oddly enough, I forgot that I had them on my computer, hence the really long time between taking the pictures and posting them.

The office itself is located just across the street from Eventful and down the street from Divx, both of which we have featured before. Compared with many other offices we have shown, Microsoft is all business. Granted, this particular office is a sales office, so the look is going to be much different than say, the Google office with a slide and ballpit.

Tribax Office

July 28th, 2008 by Jose

tribax logoSure, you probably haven’t heard of Tribax before, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t care about who they are and what they do. In a nutshell, Tribax is a community provider, somewhat along the lines of Ning (but without that annoying half a billion dollar valuation). And not unlike me in 2004, they are located in Berlin, Germany.

The office is pretty good. Given a choice between your own office and a room full of beer, I would guess most Germans would choose the latter. These guys did. One thing they didn’t compromise on, though: elk skulls.

Know German? Want to arbeit at Tribax? Look for something good here.

UKMN Offices

July 25th, 2008 by Stephen

If the first thing that came to your mind right as you looked at UKMN was United Kingdom Minnesota, you sir/madam, are incorrect. UKMN is a creative team of people all working toward one goal, making your product or service extra appealing and letting people know about it. They do this with brand consulting, advertising, brand identity projects, and just good ol’ graphic design and photography.

The company is located in Reading, UK (hence the name) and has a pretty tidy space. While these images could be a branding scheme to make us think the office is always organized and clean when in fact it is the opposite, I will choose to believe what my eyes show me.
