Tokbox HQ

August 15th, 2008 by Stephen

The best way to describe Tokbox is to say that it is free, simple, embeddable, online video chat that is so easy to use, your non-techie grandparents will be able to use it. Literally, all you need is a webcam and internet. The service also allows users the option to send video messages instead of a live video call.

Tokbox was another company I was able to visit during my latest trip to the Bay Area. Thankfully, they were able to arrange a visit on short notice. Special thanks to Nick and Lauren for being so hospitable and answering any questions I had.

The office space is literally across the street from Pac Bell Park in San Francisco. The floor they occupy is shared with a couple other companies, and they share some of the amenities like the kitchen, lounge, game tables, and the large conference room. The floor is wood, which is always a favorite here at OS. Instead of cubicles or an open-layout, each employee has a corner desk giving a combination of both. Overall, I think the most memorable experience was trying to figure out what was going on in an episode of the insane Japanese show ‘Kure Kure Takora‘ with the company’s CEO.

Love this office. Might be enough to get me out of my home office and to an office. Of course I could live in part of a warehouse loft and have the office in the other part.
