Rijkwaterstaat Offices

September 30th, 2008 by Jose

rijk logoI’ve never really needed to speak Dutch. Pretty much everyone in Amsterdam speaks English, after all. I’m really missing it today, though, because Rijkwaterstaat in Utrecht, Netherlands has one of the most interesting offices ever featured here on Office Snapshots, and I have little to no idea what goes on there.

If I were to go by the website, I’d guess Rijkwaterstaat is some sort of Department of Public Works. If I were to go by the look of the office, though, I’d say Rijkwaterstaat is a studio that exists entirely within the mind of a mad designer, kind like in The Cell, but luckily, without Jennifer Lopez. What, pray tell, is in images 8 and 9? If you have any fun, shocking, or entertaining (anything but correct!) ideas, please leave them in the comments.

Oneupweb Headquarters

September 29th, 2008 by Stephen

If you have great content but don’t seem to know how to connect with readers that would enjoy it, then you probably could use the help of Oneupweb. Oneupweb is a company that specializes in online marketing through the various avenues of Search Engine Marketing, Eye Tracking, Social Media, and then backs their work up using analytics.

The company’s building is located in Traverse City, Michigan, and automatically wins the award for the only company in our history to own a private beach. Without making a terribly wild guess, I’d say that the building can hold close to a million employees. The space itself is very well decorated and elegant feeling. One of my favorite elements is the comfortable seats overlooking the water. Even though there are quite a few open work areas, the employees have a good amount of room to themselves to offer a bit of privacy.

Cabedge Offices

September 26th, 2008 by Stephen

You probably didn’t know this, but there are other businesses in the Nashville area that do something beside play country music. One of these is Cabedge. Cabedge is a design firm that handles projects anywhere along the lines of photography to hosting to print design to video creation to much more. The company was born on April Fools day and has done work for companies like Tylenol, LEGO, BMI, and Saturn.

While the office is technically in Brentwood, TN, it has all the elements of a great looking design studio right up to the building architecture. The company recently moved to this location, and from the looks of it could handle additional employees there. My favorite element is the windowed room with the different colored squares. I also think the spiral staircase is a nice effect. All in all, the space looks like one where creativity just oozes from every nook and cranny.

Gensler Chicago Office

September 24th, 2008 by Jose

gensler logoLast week we took a look at Gensler’s office in San Francisco. They have over thirty offices around the world, and this fine day we are checking out Gensler’s second office in America’s Second City.

As I mentioned last time (and why wouldn’t you remember every little thing that I write), Gensler is the world’s largest architecture firm. Their Chicago office is extremely interesting; I especially enjoy the way the old-fashioned (the exposed brick wall, the columns) mixes with the new-fangled (the Aeron chairs, the computers).

On a more serious note, I’ve always suspected that architects wear hard hats twenty four hours a day, and photo 7 confirms it. Boo-yah.

IDEO San Francisco Office

September 19th, 2008 by Jose

ideo logoThere’s no office feature I love more than having the San Francisco Bay Bridge right outside your window. We had a really good example last week (Gensler, in case you forgot), and today, we have another good one with IDEO.

IDEO is one of the world’s premier design firms. Their headquarters are located in Palo Alto, CA, but this San Francisco office is pretty nifty. It’s actually on a pier! The office itself is charming and warm, and it’s bohemian without trying too hard. Which is good, ‘cos if you couldn’t design your office properly, what chances would you have with someone else’s product. Am I right?
