The world would be a pretty dreary place without Activision. Imagine, if you will, a life without Pitfall!, without Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, and without Guitar Hero. That is bleak world, my friends, and not one I would want to be a part of. So, before I take my own life, let us return to a time and place where we do our darndest to avoid pits, where anyone can skate like Tony Hawk, and where even 5 year olds can shred like Slash.
Activision’s office in Santa Monica is just what you’d expect from a major video game publishing company, what with their motion capture studio, their graffiti walls, and their numerous skateboards and guitars. The best part, though, is definitely the map of LA on the wall of the conference room. I heard that the map is so accurate, it’s actually used as the official LA map on Google Maps. It’s true, I checked on Snopes and everything.

Three Rings Design is a game design company that makes ‘persistent world online games’ or PWOG’s, not to be confused with pogs, the fun game of throwing heavy slammers at milkcaps. Anyways, the company is located in San Francisco just down the street from SFMOMA. If you haven’t yet, you should check out some of the games they’ve created here.
This office is by far the most creative office we’ve ever featured here. Instead of going with normal furniture, Three Rings decided to go with custom pieces that you literally will not find anywhere else. For instance, would Microsoft has a tenta-couch? I think not. Would Facebook have boat-on-the-high-seas themed couches? Nope. Lastly, if I’m not mistaken, it looks like they have a hidden passage behind a bookshelf. I don’t think that Google Zurich can even boast that.

Sure, it’s called a factory, and there’s a menacing industrial complex on the logo, but Sanborn Media Factory can’t fool me. They’re nothing more than a successful, talented interactive agency located in New York City. They do all sorts of stuff, from Flash games to ad campaigns to podcasts. Over the years they’ve done work with some pretty big names, including the New York Times, Jeep, and Victoria’s Secret.
SMF’s walls are seasonally appropriate (and very classy), but I’m thinking their holiday spirit might be a bit lacking. While that is a very nice wreath, I usually like more than one lonely decoration in my workspace. And by the way, does anyone else’s brain go all crazy when they look at the third picture? It looks like a weird doorway in a giant wall. Just me? Sorry. Carry on.
