LPA, Inc. Tour – Office Snapshots

December 8th, 2008 by Stephen

Last week, I was lucky enough to visit the fantastic offices of LPA, Inc. out here in Irvine, California. LPA is an architecture firm that specializes in environmentally friendly, energy efficient building design. The company has been working in this particular sector long before being “green” was cool. One of the great things about the company is they they don’t only green for their clients, they live green at their own office.

Their office is LEED-CI certified, and has a lot of really neat technology to help be efficient. By far the coolest are the Fuel Cell generators that is located outside which generates some of their electricity. They also test out some of the technologies like louvers that shine sunlight further into the building. The firm also uses a lot of paper, but is sure to recycle what they use.

As far as the office is concerned, they have desks with adjustable heights making the workstation that much more personalized. One of my favorite parts of the office were all of the building models located throughout the office. Lastly, instead of using plastic cups, they use cups made of corn. Overall, I had a great visit, and special thanks to Rochelle Veturis for making it happen.

you would think there would be skylights. To minimize the indoor lighting. How about wind turbines. such as these small ones: http://www.ecogeek.org/content/view/585/

    Or my favorite geothermal power.

Green design is not just an office practice, for many of us it’s a lifestyle choice.

This office is a neat one, I’ve been there. There aren’t any skylights because they are the first floor of a two story building.

    Nice photo spread.

It is a nice office, thats for sure. And being LEED certified is great. Being focused on chairs and ergonomics, I see their workstations, and while the adjustable height is great, they still clearly are devoid of ergonomics! The Leap chairs are great, but this is a common fact that I think should be as popular as the “green ideal”…ergonomics in the workspace. Anyways, thats my thoughts on their workspaces. But for their office design, it really is nice!

I agree, I love the models. Neat space. The employees are fortunate to work in a green, healthy office space. I’ll bet their number of sick days is lower than most, and increased productivity as well.
