  • Worldwide construction giant Skanska has an attractive office for their location in Helsingborg, Sweden. The office, beyond being attractive, is incredibly energy efficient, producing enough energy to power itself through the use of photovoltaic cells.

As another entrant in the Sweden’s Coolest Offices contest, the space is very nice. Built from an old barn, the building brings together the old with the new – tradition with innovation.

Here are a few notes about the project:

“The space has been designed to allow various office layouts and to enable the interior to be easily modified to meet future requirements. The office building could also be easily converted to accommodate multiple tenants in the future. Such flexible design features, together with the energy plus nature of the building, should ensure that the building has a long useful lifespan.”

One of the interesting things I’ve noticed about providing a “Green Building” is that planning for longevity is important. The same is obviously true with designing an office environment. If you take a good amount of time to plan for your needs at the beginning, you will end up saving money and resources over the long term.
