Discover StumbleUpon’s San Francisco Offices
The web discovery masters at StumbleUpon have a cozy office in San Francisco that was designed by Boor Bridges Architecture and IDF Studio.
StumbleUpon’s office currently houses 120+ employees and is located in the South Park district, which is home to many other tech companies. We’ve seen many companies move from the South Bay to the more lively and desirable South of Market area of SF. With such a perfect location, the company has plans to expand to several more floors of their current building rather than set up shop elsewhere.
Current employee workstations are arranged in a bullpen style – but some quiet can be had in the office’s array of meeting and conferences spaces or smaller phone rooms. Conference spaces have been cleverly named for famous discoverers like Niels Bohr, Thomas Edison, or Albert Einstein. These rooms have fun items to bring focus to each discoverer, like working microscopes, lightbulbs, etc.
Planned for the expansion are a large cafe space, hotelling workstations, additional meeting and conference spaces.
One great feature StumbleUpon has, which I’ve written about before, is a locker room with shower. The company encourages employees to bicycle to work and does so by both providing space to store bicycles but also a way to clean up after the ride in.
It is also nice to see that the office has many comfortable features to it that give it some character. Rather than it simply being a workspace, it is apparent that the designers have taken time to make the office somewhere employees want to be rather than have to be.
