Google’s Moscow Office – Pure Google, With Great Local Style

Google’s European offices are the best designed spaces company-wide and the Moscow office is no exception. The office was designed by Camenzind Evolution to reflect warmth and family, the needs of individuals over corporate standards, and of course, a strong Russian identity.

The space is immediately welcoming, warm and inviting, relaxed yet focused, comfy and still serious as it provides functional and diverse work environments throughout. Work environment diversity is probably the most important aspect of the Google Moscow space. Throughout the office you’ll notice a type of workspace that is compatible with every kind of work whether it be group-oriented or individual.

Employee workstations are classic open desk arrangement with one important distinction – a plethora of both casual and formal meeting space at their fingertips.

As far as cafeterias go, Moscow-based Googlers could do worse. Inspired by classical Russian dining chambers, the buffets are clad in exquisite tiles crafted by local monks. While many cafeterias are harsh, bright and uncomfortable, Google’s is warm and comfortable like a diner or home.

In terms of style, this space is one of my favorites because it doesn’t have annoyingly bright tones of red, blue, and green present in some Google spaces. You’ll also notice that the glass walls all have some sort of translucent covering to give the occupant a little more privacy. One of my favorite features are the wooden boards used as wall coverings as well as ceiling panels.

Lastly, the so-called ‘Magic Forest’ coffee lounge is a perfect space for employees to take a comfortable and casual break and relax throughout the day.

Google’s New, Futuristic London Engineering Floor

Just when you forgot about Google, that crazy search company, they desided to build another crazy office. We’ve seen them before – Stockholm and Zurich – but this one is just flat out futuristic.

Dubbed ‘L4′, the space was built as the London office’s engineering floor which houses around 350 Googlers.

It has all the essentials from desks and chairs to 19 flavors of coffee and billiards. Conference spaces offer multi-level seating, video-conferencing, and Vitra Panton chairs.

Anyone have thoughts on who fitted out the space? I’m nto familiar with many of the furniture items in there.

Google Pittsburgh

The only thing better than a shiny new office in a shiny new building is a shiny new office in an old building with a great history. Google‘s new office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is a great example of this. The space proves that you can get all of the style and conveniences of a modern locale in a building that not only looks awesome but also has a story to tell.

The space was designed by Strada, a Pittsburgh-based architecture and design firm. Needless to say, they did an amazing job. Not only is it very well put-together and pretty, it is also very creative. They managed to do something useful with a silo, and even more importantly, they have a giant hammock. They must have an awful lot of faith in their employees at Google Pittsburgh. Cos I can safely say I would be sleeping in that hammock pretty much all day.

Google Offices – Milan

Another day, another Google office. They just keep expanding with thoughtful abandon. That being said, it makes for good fun in the office design world. Let’s have a look at their Milan offices.

The office is basically aligned to the aesthetic most of Google’s European offices embody: bright colors and crazy props around the office. The bright colors seem to exist in all Google offices, but small car-like objects are all Europe. The office has a cafeteria, as well as a game room area complete with foosball and pool. The workstations seem to be fairly normal row-of-desks arrangement, which makes me wonder what the office is used for. Lastly, there is a lot of natural light which can do wonders for employee morale.

Google’s Toronto Office

As we’ve shown before, Google offices are typically some of the most extravagant, fun, and energizing spaces seen in today’s work world. Their Toronto office, while not as large or sprawling as their Mountainview, Zurich or Stockholm offices, it is still of the same flavor and spirit.

You of course see their famous cafeteria areas that boast free employee meals, and a wonderful play area complete with foosball, video games, and upside-down umbrellas. The workstations as cubes, but not so high as to feel trapped or isolated. Google employees also are very skilled at making their work spaces their own, though not quite as good as Zappos employees. The office also features many recycled elements from the doors and other wooden features, to the Google logo that is sprawling along the ceiling.

Naturally, the office is colorful, complete with the live search screen, but the space also has some elements that bring Canada’s culture into the office like their old chairs from the Montreal Forum. Overall, Google’s Toronto office is another great one.
