Taranta Creations’ ‘Red Town’ Offices – Shanghai

This one has bounced around for a couple months, but here is a neat office build-out in Shanghai:

“Shanghai based practice Taranta Creations has designed their own studio located in Shanghai, China. The design is a reflection of the ongoing creative process within the studio. The intervention seeks to provide an adaptable space that supports a range of informal functions.

The office is situated in a former metal factory. The existing diagonal steel structure was causing difficulties to fulfill the wish of the studio to create two floors. The distance between the structure and ceiling was too less for a traditional office layout of floor and tables. Therefore a floor is created just above the steel structure. Four working stations are placed in the space between the steel profiles. This way the floor is transformed to one continuous desk, while the four recessed stations provide a more traditional workspace. The large ‘work floor’ invites the designers to use the open space for thinking, sketching, meeting, drafting, modeling, sitting and relaxing. This informal interpretation of office space encourages cross-pollination between the different projects and disciplines occurring within the studio.

On the lower floor the individual workstations are placed along the window. A green sculptural table can be used for communal activities. Informal and contoured, the central staircase is reminiscent of a large droplet of water ready to fall from the ceiling. Upon entering the stairway, a highly saturated environment of bright red engulfs and surrounds the individual, starkly marking the transition between the contrasting office areas. The color is repeated on the second floor as an accent to highlight the recessed work areas. ”

Bartle Bogle Hegerty (BBH) Offices – Shanghai

For some people, working from home is a dream. For others (me), working from home is impossible due to the non-work distractions. For employees of Bartle Bogle Hegerty’s Shanghai office, working from home while working at an office is the happy medium.

The space was designed by Asylum, and was intended to be a starting point of social commentary on the frantic pace of Shanghai construction. As a result, the space looks half-finished with what look like holes in the floor, unfinished ceilings, and uneven lighting fixtures that almost mimic construction lighting.

Working in the office however, seems to be much of the same for employees beyond the materials and style of the space. Desks are pretty standard for creative-type companies, though the conference spaces are quite different. Examining the effectiveness of an advertisement in the likes of a home kitchen or your kids’ bedroom seem like fairly new concepts.

M Moser is a major interior architecture firm that focuses on sustainable design. They are a really big deal. Just one look at their client list (Adidas, Coca-Cola, IBM, Apple, Sony, Citigroup, and hundreds of others) proves how talented and influential they are. If you don’t believe the client list, check out their Hong Kong office. It’s gorgeous, and it’s LEED certified.

I don’t know about you guys, but I love offices that have glass interior walls. They provide all of the (audio) privacy of a regular closed office, without the isolation. Plus, it just looks nicer.

Oh, and most of their offices are located in East Asia, which is pretty neat. Full Stop.

Anken Green Coworking Office and Building

Anken Green is an office and coworking building located in Shanghai, China. It’s occupants are comprised of mainly Foreign Design, PR, Events, IT and Trading companies. While a majority of the building is made up of office suites, there is also a coworking space for people with much smaller office needs.

As you can tell, the interior of the space is very nicely fashioned, and the building itself has many amenities that make it an attractive space; such as downstairs cafe, rooftop garden, and wonderful interior design. The building is also designed with sustainability in mind, using several technologies to lessen the environmental impact of the space.

Google’s Hong Kong Office

When it comes to well-known companies, Google is not one of them. I had to Ask Jeeves who they were, and even he didn’t know. So suffice it so say, Google makes widgets, and people like them.

We’ve shown quite a few examples of Google’s extravagant offices, and folks, this one is just basically a normal office, with Googly colors thrown around for good measure. They do have a nice pantry with plenty of snacks and drinks, to enjoy while working (playing foosball). Now while the office isn’t too spectacular in and of itself, they do have a wonderful view of the city.
