TBWA \ HAKUHODO Inspirational Offices – Tokyo

I’ve seen a few images of this office around the web, but recently came across a full set on the architect’s website. A little about the project from the architect Klein Dytham.

“TBWA is a global advertising company working with Nissan, Apple, Adidas and many more. Hakuhodo, Japan’s 2nd largest agency, works with Nissan globally. The two agencies decided to establish a joint venture in Tokyo known as TBWA\ HAKUHODO. The collaboration was 3-way between the 2 agencies and the designers. After looking for properties throughout Tokyo for a new space, the agencies asked us to join the search. We discovered an old bowling alley in a large 8-story amusement complex in downtown Tokyo.”

Habitat Offices

Habitat is an antique shop located in Osaka, Japan. Their office space was fit out by Facet Studio, who wrote up a little bit about the project here:

“This office is located at a place surrounded by buildings on all sides. It is not all that pleasant, to be entirely honest. There we exhausted our minds in finding some kind of apparatus which can maintain privacy, whilst ensureing natural light access. We found a simple answer to our problem: to allocate “paper screens” invented centuries ago, at the threshold between inside and outside.

When we open up the paper screens, of course we can ensure a visual connection between inside and outside; we can also control the amount of openess. Furthermore, even when we close the paper screens, it diffuses the natural light from outside, and distributes softly to the inside. It becomes possible for us to enjoy this threshold in many ways: when it is closed, and when it is opened. It is quite curious that when the paper screens are closed, because only the existence of “light” transfers to our brains as visual information, it somehow makes the space seem brighter.

This soft, diffused light neutralises the hardness of concrete; the dully oil-stained cedar floor and bookshelves slowly disappears when the time reaches closer to sunset. The change in outside natural environment induces a play of “light” and “shadow” in the internal environment. It creates a peacefulness for the people working inside. We hope it will be a working environment of calm and peace.”

Level-5 Offices

Level-5 is a successful videogame developer based in Japan. Their offices are very impressive and make me wish I ran a successful videogame company.

Notice some of the details that make this look more like a swanky big-city loft rather than an office. Floating glow-floors, mood lighting, nighttime views of the city, and of course a yoda. Common areas seem to be the most important areas for Level-5 as these are all wonderfully put together. Conference rooms, quiet nooks, large conference halls, and even recreation rooms. Come to think of it, this place almost looks like an office you’d see in a video game.

Good morning, fair readers. Today we are taking you across the pond (the big one) to Japan. van der Architects is located in Denenchofu, an upscale residential part of Tokyo that is home to actors, politicians, and yes, at least one corporate interior design firm.

The individual offices inside the building have been made to look like little wooden houses against a nice sunny sky, which is just genius. Plenty of people can say they get their own office at work, but who can boast that they get their very own house? These guys can. And do.

Syouei Create

Today’s featured office is definitely not your typical office. For starters, it has a six-meter tall tree growing in the center of it. No not a fake tree, a real one, the kind not made of plastic. The desks are all made of real wood which, along with the tree, give the employees that ‘at the park feeling’.

Syouei Create is a architecture/design company that works mainly on office spaces while dabbling in corporate branding. The company has 35 workers and is located in the center of Tokyo, Japan.
