Skype’s Offices – Stockholm

Skype has been busy with their offices lately. Today’s is located in Stockholm, and a previous post showed off their latest space in Palo Alto. This project was completed by PS Arkitektur.

As you can see the space is very bright and colorful, though not quite as busy as Google’s Stockholm office space. Here is a some explanation of the design choices:

The office design is based on the spirit of Skype, how it is a useful and playful tool that connects the world. The in-between shapes of interconnected nodes has given us romboid and triangular shapes that is visible in the flooring and in the design of some of the hard furniture. The playful happy theme in colours and soft furniture comes from the Skype graphics and the Skype cloud logo is reinterpreted as cloud-shaped lighting throughout the office space. The Stockholm office predominately works with audio- and video development and this is manifested in the special made wallpapers with cables, earphones and other devices linked to audio-video technique.

Oktavilla Offices

Located in Stockholm, Oktavilla, a design firm specializing in magazine and web design, has created an inspiring space that tells a lot about their brand and product.

The space, a open, bright loft, is lit by impressive windows and wonderful fixtures. While most walls are simply walls, one is composed of stacked bundles of magazines, a visual testament to the company’s work. Desks are fashioned from high-grade plywood. One conference space is created using a galvanized steel barrier, and filled with a table for 8. The wooden floors of the space are also impressive.

Bahnhof Office

We’ve been showing you offices around the world for a few years now, so we don’t come across something truly new and unique too often anymore. Well, jaded readers, put this in your eyeballs: Bahnhof! Bahnhof is a Swedish Internet provider. Their service is probably great, but their office is definitely wonderful.

Honestly, it looks a whole lot like a Dharma Initiative building from Lost. The office, designed by Albert France-Lanord (A)rchitects, is built into a former anti-atomic shelter in Stockholm. The walls are the natural granite of the Vita Berg Park. The office somehow manages to feel ominous, modern, and naturalistic at the same time. And best of all, in the event of nuclear holocaust, it looks like Sweden will still have Internet.

Google’s New Office – Stockholm, Sweden

Merry Christmas Eve! Today, we are lucky enough to be bringing something brand new to the internet. Pictures from inside of Google’s newest office space in Stockholm, Sweden. This new space was designed by Swedish Architecture firm, Camenzind Evolution, the designers of the now famous Google Zurich Office. See ALL Google offices here.

When beginning to design the office, it was learned that the employees wished to maintain a small-company atmosphere and leave a Swedish fingerprint on the space, all while combining several Swedish offices into a centralized location for engineers and the marketing and sales divisions.

The office is filled with everything we know to be Google, though with a bit less of the very extravagant elements the Zurich space contained. The conference rooms are themed with famous Swedish inventors like Linne, Ericsson, Nobel, and Bohlin. Several of the other rooms have unique themes as well. Google just seems like a fun company to work for, and this office doesn’t change that belief in the slightest. Plenty of places to play on different games, a great looking kitchen area, and of course many places to lounge make this Google office one of the best. And naturally, this branch of Google pays employees with meatballs.

Tonium Office

Sweden is fantastic. I love their meatballs, their inexpensive yet stylish furniture, their catchy and introspective pop music (I’m not talking about ABBA), and now, their music mixing technology. Tonium is the company behind the aptly named Pacemaker, a PSP-sized music player that also serves as a DJ system. It’s pretty new, as it’s not even for sale yet, but it seems pretty great.

Also great is their office in Stockholm. Nice views, comfortable chairs, warm lighting, and turntables the size of 100 Pacemakers. Also, there’s a cat on the wall, and he only speaks Japanese(?).
