The only thing better than a shiny new office in a shiny new building is a shiny new office in an old building with a great history. Google‘s new office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is a great example of this. The space proves that you can get all of the style and conveniences of a modern locale in a building that not only looks awesome but also has a story to tell.

The space was designed by Strada, a Pittsburgh-based architecture and design firm. Needless to say, they did an amazing job. Not only is it very well put-together and pretty, it is also very creative. They managed to do something useful with a silo, and even more importantly, they have a giant hammock. They must have an awful lot of faith in their employees at Google Pittsburgh. Cos I can safely say I would be sleeping in that hammock pretty much all day.

Inventionland Offices

The offices of Inventionland are like nothing you’ve ever seen before. That is unless you’ve seen them before. The Pittsburgh-based company invents more than 2000 items per year, licensing out one new product every three days.

All of this happens in a 70,000sqft facility that is is designed with 15 different sets. Sets range from pirate ships, race tracks, and faux caves, to red carpet walkways, a castle, or a giant robot. Not only does the space have fun, creative decor, but the facility also has a state-of-the-art sound/video/animation studio and fully-equipped workshops for creating working prototypes of inventions. Instead of being a normal “employee”, Inventionland employees are known as “Creationeers” and get to wear lab coats.

All of this, is of course possible and reasonable when the founder of the company’s has a motto like this:

“The best work comes out of the spirit of play.” – George Davison

Neo-Pangea’s Office

If you have ever needed great design work, whether it be print, film, web, or other, you know that finding just the right company can be more frustrating than waiting for ‘Fast and the Furious: Continental Drift’ to be released. Neo-Pangea has developed fantastic work for companies like Nike, Discover Channel, Prego, and Walmart.

The company is located in West Reading, Pennsylvania and has some really great looking office space. Instead of just throwing together a place for people to work, their office has some really nice age and charisma to it. The desks and lounge furnishings just give this space a completely different look than items from Ikea ever could. The light fixtures and fans are by far my favorite decorative feature as they perform well with both form and function.

Urban Outfitters HQ

We don’t cover companies like Urban Outfitters too often, but we came across this office and it was just too nice to pass up. You know Urban Outfitters: the hip, stylish clothing and home store located on a hip, stylish street near you. You’d expect their offices to be a thing of beauty, and yeah, they are.

Urban Outfitter’s headquarters in Philadelphia, PA are like the campus to some Bohemian University. It’s bright, it’ss airy, it’s colorful, and it’s comfortable and functional. Plus, it’s even sunny there! Although, if the FX network has taught me one thing (and it really has taught me only one thing) it’s that it’s always sunny in Philadelphia.

WayCoolMail – Barn Office

Every so often, we feature smaller company offices that we think have something neat to offer. Well, WayCoolMail has an office that is pretty neat. First off, the company is a part of Kinetic Web Solutions and located in suburban Philadelphia. They allow you to create customized direct mailers online in minutes.

The office is located in a barn-style building, which surely has a lower rent than an office in Silicon Valley or the Bay Area. The space itself looks pretty homely and rustic, while offering the company plenty of room to grow. Plus, it has a fireplace, so who can complain!
