Burgess Group Offices

Burgess Group specializes in the development of Medicare and Medicaid-based reimbursement software. Designed by the architecture firm SmithGroup, the space has a number of wonderful design styles throughout. Here is a little writeup from the architect, followed by images:

“The company was expanding as a result of the transformation of the nation’s healthcare system. Due to rapid growth, they needed new space to accommodate increased staff and to visually reinforce their brand presence as a leader in their field.

Burgess selected a new space in a SmithGroup-designed building two blocks from their existing address. The new headquarters integrates organizational changes in work flow and processes, directed by owner Greg Burgess. The coveted corner office was no longer the centerpiece. The space was instead planned as a collaborative environment around an open studio for software engineers who often work long hours. It combines administrative offices, sales support space, a variety of workplaces, and an abundance of dedicated collaboration spaces and staff lounges to encourage creativity, knowledge sharing and open exchange of ideas in this ever-changing industry.”

Therefore customers can enhance their business efficiencies, build better competitive advantage and focus on their core competences.

Oftentimes, a great office space is important to making your business work more efficiently and make working with clients easier. For XSolve, their latest move has made both a reality. They have found that meeting with clients in-house is a much more enjoyable experience with a more professional office space.

The XSolve space is pretty clean looking with great wooden beams, cement floors and nice clean wall colors. The different chair colors add some nice life to the space, as do the various wall stickers and other furnishing choices. The building seems to have a lot of character with its brick walls and old styling. A few of my favorite features are the overhead lights, the office navigation signs, and the very nice bathroom fixtures. Looks like another great space from Poland.

Oracle – Madrid Office

If there’s one thing that people know about Oracle, it’s that Larry Ellison is the co-founder and CEO, and that he is rich beyond imagination. It’s a pretty good thing for a company to be known for, really. If you’re the sixth richest person in the world, your company must be doing a lot of things right. And it is, especially in the area of database management systems.

Not surprisingly, even though it is based in Redwood Shores, CA, Oracle has offices all around the world. Today we’re looking at their office in Madrid, Spain. It really isn’t anything spectacular, but it does seem quite functional and comfortable. The bright colors add a nice whimsical touch, and they have some sort wacky chair that does I-don’t-know-what. The espresso machine is very nice, too. It looks expensive. I would be afraid to break it. And then Larry would yell at me. Larry didn’t get rich by replacing a bunch of espresso machines, you know.

Microsoft Belgium Offices

When you are an intergalactically recognized company, everyone is going to be fairly critical of your office spaces. Thats why when we first posted about their offices, some people felt like they were pretty drab.

That being said, their Belgium space is quite a bit different. Its features are appealing, though it has a very corporate feel, but not so corporate to be stifling. One of the things I’ve noticed with large company office spaces are that they want to have the designed feel, but do not really take the time that small design companies do. Whether or not they need to is a different story, but a fact is a fact. This space, however interesting the colors and furniture choices, is still very much corporate.

37 Signals’ New Office

When it comes to signals, 36 is too few and 38 is too many. That’s why 37 Signals has been so successful and why they are able to have the office we are lucky to see today.

These offices are located in a large industrial shell, with high ceilings, large windows, and enough non-standard features to give boring offices a headache. To begin, the wood millwork, cork and felt walls, desks, and blackboard walls and doors were built by hand by Stay-Straight Manufacturing. It’s not often to see such craftsmanship in an office built for a technology company, but it makes sense if the company views their work with as much pride as the old trade crafts of wood and steel.

The space is fairly open, with sections of desking located near the outer regions of the office and the common areas near the center. Some of these common areas include a large lunch area with a full kitchen and enough seating to house employees for both meetings and lunches. No doubt the most unique feature of the office are the chalkboards, which are both elegant and smart. The desk spines are fantastic looking, and a great way to spice up the work place while matching the dark wood in the flooring.
